Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) has been recommended by the American Psychiatric Association since 2010 for treatment of major depressive disorder and approved by the UK National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) in 2015.

During treatment, magnetic pulses are delivered through a magnetic coil to stimulate nerve cells in the parts of the brain controlling the mood. Repeated stimulation of this area of the brain can have an antidepressants effect on people suffering from major depressive disorder.

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation therapy

  •   An alternative to antidepressants
  •   Series of pulsed magnetic stimuli to the brain
  •   CE approved* and FDA cleared** for the treatment of MDD
  •   Non-invasive treatment – no anesthesia
  •   Free from common antidepressant drug side effects such as weight gain and sexual dysfunction
  •   Most common side effects from TMS are headache and nausea
  •   Does not affect cognitive function
  •   Patients are able to resume daily activities right after treatment
  •   May be used with or without antidepressant (determined by physician)
  •   For use in outpatient settings
  •   Maintenance treatment if needed

Caution: TMS treatment may not be effective or appropriate for all patients suffering from major depressive disorder. Even though TMS has very few side effects compared to antidepressants, additional side effects may occur. Treatment should only be carried out by a licensed physician or trained technicians supervised by physicians. Please consult MagVenture and relevant scientific literature to learn more about the treatment and any potential risks.
